Message Just in time to get bumped off Arnel’s list apparently. Last weekend I got eleven passes in at the ¼ mile track in Bowling Green, KY, plenty of practice for someone without experience at the strip.

Car conditions: Gas on E, pump gas, 18 psi (need to spend time with my EVC4 to make sure I have it set up at optimum), spare tire and all tools still in the back.

Boileralum posted awhile back about his slips and problems, so here I am with mine. In the 3rd or 4th run I blew off the driver’s side hardpipe to the throttle body, causing a run of 23@43mph and a nice scare. After I limped off the track fearing the worst, Rich and I inspected it and we found a small tear in the coupling to the throttle body, but it wasn’t all the way through, so we (I should say ‘he’ because he was the one with the mechanics gloves on and was capable of touching the 9,000 degree pipe) put it back on and I went out for some more.

After playing with the pressure in the rear tires, I eventually pulled a 13.1@108 with a 1.9 60ft on 18” x 285 street tires. The result was whoring a modified mustang which made for a funny situation later. I was pretty hyped at the possibility of breaking into the 12s on street tires, but Rich was offering and telling me to use his slicks, so I pulled off after that run to switch them out….enter funny situation…..

Redneck father and son walk up (driver of mustang I just whored)….
Father “I guess that’s one of them new Corvettes ain’t it?” with expression of awe
Son has look of confusion on his face as to say “OMG dad what are you doing”
Me “um, no sir it’s a Nissan”
Father “Man that thing’s fast how many liters is it?”
Me “three”
Again with a look of confusion, this time from the father
Father “So its not a corvette then? What did you say it was again? Its brand new right?”
Me “Nissan 300ZX, and no, this car is 12 years old”
“Nice car” as both of them walk away with a look of bewilderment……

After slapping on the slicks I had to wait an hour to get onto the track. After that I basically was hotlapped 3 times. EGT’s stayed under control so I just kept trying for 12s.

1st run on slicks was a 13.1 as the car went sideways off the line cause I didn’t heat the slicks enough.
2nd run was a 13.0 because I dunno why.
And finally on the last run I pulled a 12.90 @107 with a 1.8 60ft and they closed the track. I was happy I had made it onto the list but at the same time disappointed because I know my car should be much faster considering the mods. My fastest trap of the night was 110. They also kept pulling me in front of the water box to heat the slicks, and dry burnouts made for short, wheel hop happy burnouts.

Big thanks to Rich (Boileralum) for loaning me the slicks and everyone that was there for the support even though my car is slow.

I’ll be going back soon though because I am determined to get on Arnel’s list for stock turbos. Gotta beat that 12.8 now. Might hit the dyno first to see what I can improve though.

The slip, sorry for the bad scan:

Eric
